  • Currently enrolled students age 13 or above (high school, university, master’s, and PhD students are all eligible)
  • You need to provide a school email (.edu.tw) or upload proof of enrollment (student ID, enrollment certificate)

  • Review usually takes about 1-7 business days. Students from major universities across Taiwan can apply, and re-verification is required every two years

1. GitHub Pro + Codespaces + Certification Voucher

Application tutorial:

  1. Create a GitHub account — Go to github.com and sign up. It is recommended to use your main personal email first, then add your school email afterward.
  2. Go to the application page — Visit education.github.com/pack and click “Get your Pack.”
  3. Choose student status — Select “Student,” then choose your school. Universities in Taiwan can usually be found by searching the English school name.
  4. Verify your student status — Choose one of two methods: (1) add your .edu.tw school email to GitHub → Settings → Emails → add the school email and verify it; or (2) upload proof of enrollment (front photo of student ID, PDF enrollment certificate).
  5. Fill out the application form — Explain how you plan to use GitHub. English is fine, for example: “I want to learn software development and build portfolio projects.”
  6. Wait for review — Usually 1-7 business days. You will receive an email when approved. If rejected, upload clearer proof documents and try again.

Q: What should I do if I get rejected? The most common reason is that the photo is unclear or the school name cannot be identified. Retake your student ID photo and make sure your name, school name, and valid date are clearly visible, then apply again.

Q: Can high school students apply? Yes. Any currently enrolled student age 13 or above can apply, including high school students.

Q: What if I can’t find my school in Taiwan? Try the full English name of the school or its abbreviation. If it still does not appear, upload proof of enrollment as an alternative verification method.

2. GitHub Copilot

An AI code completion tool that supports VS Code, JetBrains, Neovim, and more. After student verification, you can enable it directly from GitHub account settings → Copilot, with no separate application required.

⚠ March 2026 update: Starting on 2026/3/12, the student edition changed to the “Copilot Student” plan. Main change: advanced models such as Claude Opus/Sonnet and GPT-5.4 can no longer be selected manually, but they are still available through Auto mode. The Premium Request Units (PRU) quota is unchanged. Students can choose to upgrade to the paid Copilot Pro / Pro+ plans.

Application tutorial:

  1. Confirm your Pack is approved — Log in to GitHub and visit education.github.com/pack to confirm it shows “You’re all set.”
  2. Go to Copilot settings — Visit github.com/settings/copilot, where you should see the free activation option.
  3. Enable Copilot — Click to enable it and agree to the terms. No payment information is required.

  2. Choose a verification method — The recommended method is “Official document” to upload your student ID, or “University email” to enter your .edu.tw email. You can also verify through GitHub Pack.
  3. Fill in your application details — Enter your name, school name, and expected graduation year. The school name can be in Chinese or English.
  4. Verify your email — If you choose email verification, you will receive a verification email. Click the link in the email to complete verification.

  2. Choose a region — Choose the nearest data center region. Tokyo or Singapore is recommended because they are closest to Taiwan. Note: once selected, the region cannot be changed.
  3. Fill in your information — Enter your personal information. A credit card is required for verification, but you will not be charged.
  4. Create the account — After the account is created, Always Free resources remain available permanently.
  5. Create a VM — In the console, create a Compute Instance and choose the Ampere (ARM) processor and the Always Free plan.

Q: Is it really permanently free? Resources in the Always Free tier are permanently free as long as the account remains active, which means logging in to the control panel at least once every 7 days.

Q: Can I keep using it after graduation? You cannot renew the education plan after graduation, but files you created earlier will remain available, subject to the limitations of the downgraded free plan.

21. Canva for Education / Campus

  1. Register with your school email — Go to notion.so and create an account using your .edu.tw school email, or change the email on your existing account to your school email.
  2. Go to account settings — Click “Settings & Members” in the left sidebar → “Plans.”
  3. Upgrade to Education — Scroll down to find the “Get free Education plan” button and click it. The system will verify your school email automatically.
  4. Start using it — After the upgrade, you get all Plus plan features.

Q: What if school email verification fails? Your school must be listed in WHED (World Higher Education Database) to be verified. Most universities in Taiwan are listed.
